Eat better
Rachel and I are eating better these days. A while back some food fell on the floor (a bit of fast food or something, I can’t remember exactly what) and we picked it up quick because we didn’t want the dog eating it. Rachel looked at it and said, “Do you think he can have this?” and I said, “No, that’s terrible. I wouldn’t feed it to him.” And it clicked that we were literally eating food that we wouldn’t feed to a dog. Granted, our dog is rather spoiled, but still. So we’re buying better stuff and cooking a little more. After our last visit to the grocery store Rachel said, “This looks like a fridge normal people would have.”
Also, I cooked a few things from Deceptively Delicious. They tasted pretty good, but we quickly realized that just adding vegetables to other food doesn’t make that food good for you. I came to this conclusion when I was cooking chocolate chip cookies and it called for 2 sticks of butter. But if you’re going to make cookies anyways, it’s the way to go. And I think we’ll take the sentiment of the book (hiding veges in non-vege food) and try to work it into healthy meals.
Eat out less
Still going well. With baby coming we've set a new budget (after a month of tracking expenses) and it looks like our eating out habits are half of what they were last year. Which is exactly what I was hoping for.
Be less fat
You know how your voice sounds different if you're listening to a recording of it? I saw a picture of myself the other day and I saw something different than what I do in the mirror. I exercised for the first time in months yesterday and I've got plans to keep it going.
Become dinner party people
We had a dinner party over the holiday and are scheduling a few more before the baby comes. This is still going strong.
Become handy
I'm thinking of asking for a saw miter saw during gift giving season. It's getting to that point. It's almost like I'm a real homeowner.
Pay off my car loan
I put a pretty big dent in this last month. Still doesn't look like it'll happen before the kid comes, but hopefully soon there after.
Be good
I've got six weeks till the little one is here. But the nursery is done, I still listen to my "so you're going to be a mom" podcasts (they don't make "so you're going to be a dad" podcasts) and we're taking classes this/next week. So I'm feeling as prepared as I can be.
